Our most unique blend to date was inspired by Kathryn and Craig’s 2004 trip to Australia. The landing gear of their small plane malfunctioned and resulted in a precarious emergency landing in the city of Darwin. The halls toasted their safe landing with a very memorable Shiraz/Cabernet blend and vowed to create a similar, equally lush wine upon their return to Napa Valley.
This vintage is blended from three select blocks of Syrah at Napa River Ranch, each a different clone type and soil type. Combining these three diverse blocks results in a Syrah that is very balanced and expansive, exhibiting jammy fruit and earthy, meaty undertones. We added 20% of our Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon to lend weight and breadth. Dried apricots and fig dominate the nose of this wine with underpinnings of dusty chocolate and eucalyptus. Flavors are charry and savory on the delivery and transcend into a potent fruit-forward mid-palate that overflows into a chewy and spicy baked plum finish. Buxom and supple upon release, this wine is crafted to drink over the next 5 years.

The initial push of zesty wild berry, fresh earth, nutmeg and sage turn complex and spicy, ending with a dash of hazelnut and mineral" - Wine Spectator, 2008
